God does not allow our giving to go unnoticed. In fact, God Himself sees to it that our giving is rewarded.
Scripture Reading
Matthew 6:1 Take heed that ye do not your alms before men to be seen of them: otherwise ye have no reward of your Father which is in heaven.
2 Therefore when thou doest thine alms, do not sound a trumpet before thee, as the hypocrites do in the synagogues and in the streets, that they may have the glory of men. Verily I say unto you, They have their reward.
3 But when thou doest alms, let not thy left hand know what thy right hand doeth:
4 That thine alms may be in secret: and thy Father which seeth in secret himself shall reward thee openly.
Matthew 6:4 so that your giving will be in secret, and your Father who sees what is done in secret will reward you. (NA SB)
Relating to the Scripture
All through Scripture, we are instructed to do what is right, but more than that, we are taught that we are to have right motives when we do what is right.
In the area of giving, Jesus warned against giving just to be seen of men. He told of the hypocrites who gave with great fanfare so that others would see, and give them glory.
Matthew 6:1-4
In this event, the glory received from men would be the only reward they would receive in giving.
When the believer gives a gift which is just between him and the Lord, then no glory is received by men. However, the Lord Himself takes notice. Commentator Adam Clarke reminds us: “We should ever remember that the eye of the Lord is upon us and that he sees not only the act but also every motive that led to it.” (Clarke ‘5 Commentary, Matthew 6:4 notes)
With this kind of giving, Jesus gives us a wonderful promise: “thy Father which seeth in secret himself shall reward thee openly. “ Think about it, when we give unto the Lord, without regard of man’s attention, the Lord Himself will become our rewarder.
Given the choice of the glory of men or the reward of the Father, we as believers should choose the reward of the Father every time.
God bless you.
